Configure lenses, stabilization and recording modes.
You can use background recording together with a text overlay. To enable it, go to: App → Settings → Camera, disable Camera Stable → Background recording with text overlay
Long-press anywhere on the screen, except on the buttons. This gesture is designed for easier control and increased safety while driving.
If your device supports video stabilization, go to: App → Settings → Camera, disable Camera Stable → then set Stabilization. Note that some manufacturers may limit stabilization to the stock camera app, so it may not work in third-party apps. More info: Stabilization on Android
Your device must meet two conditions:
You can test this for free: Go to App → Settings → Camera, disable Camera Stable, then tap the camera selection option. If you see combinations like Back 1 + Front 1, your phone supports it — just confirm the choice.
Dual camera recording is not compatible with the background recording yet.
The table lists only the features that differ between the two camera modes.
| Feature | Camera Stable | Camera Modern (Beta) |
|---|---|---|
| Dual front + rear camera recording | no | yes* |
| Background recording with text overlay | no | yes |
| Camera zoom | no | yes* |
| Ultra-wide camera | no | yes* |
| Photos during dual recording | no | yes* |
| 60 FPS | no | yes* |

| Higher video quality | no | yes* |

* Feature availability and available options depend on the phone hardware, Android version, and the capabilities the manufacturer makes available to third-party apps. Unsupported features may not appear in Settings.
Resolve common recording, power, heat and location issues.
Recording is a demanding process, so your battery may drain faster. In addition, the Dash Cam may use GPS, microphone, mobile data, sensors, and other components. Battery life also depends on power consumption, battery capacity, and overall battery condition. If your device is losing charge even while plugged in, try using a more powerful charger.
Your device may heat up because the app records in high video quality, uses GPS, sensor data, internet (if enabled), and is often exposed to sunlight on the windshield.
Some phones handle heat better than others.
Tips to prevent overheating: Use background recording with the screen turned off, lower the video resolution, and
my favorite tip that always helps: turn on windshield ventilation ❄️
If your camera lens is clean, go to: App → Settings → Camera → Focus, and try selecting a different option from the list (usually "continuous-video").
The app has not been tested with external USB cameras. There are many compatibility issues between the Android system and USB camera hardware from various manufacturers.
Recording may stop because Android automatically restarts all apps when the device connects to Android Auto. To avoid this, first connect to Android Auto, then start the recording. Everything should work fine this way.
This happens when you're using a paid feature in trial mode. Check the PRO section in the app. For free unlimited recording, start a foreground recording without graphics overlay, or use background recording from the Record screen.
This usually means the MP4 video file is corrupted. It can happen if the phone turns off while recording, the battery is too low, storage runs out, the device overheats, or the camera crashes.
Corrupted video files can often be repaired. Try searching on Google or check this article.
The app uses location data from your phone’s built-in GPS module. For the best accuracy, make sure you have a clear view of the sky and are not surrounded by tall buildings or indoors.
You can check your GPS signal using this app: GPS Test.
On Android 9 and earlier, only one app can use the microphone at a time. To make Google Assistant work, disable audio recording in DashCam: open the app → tap the Record screen → turn the microphone OFF (tap the mic icon).
Starting from Android 10, this limitation should no longer apply.
First, check if the video has an SRT label in the list of recordings. If not, subtitles were not created for that video.
If the label is there but subtitles are not showing, try using a different video player. I recommend XPlayer.
Android's aggressive battery-saving mode may stop background recording from working correctly.

Always check: App → Settings → Others → Detection log
Check the YouTube log: App → Settings → Others → YouTube log.
Also, keep in mind that unverified YouTube accounts have a 15-minute upload limit. Learn more about the 15-minute limit.
If you don’t see the buttons, try swiping down on the notification with one or two fingers to expand it.
Understand Android notifications and device requirements.
Since Android 8, all background services must display a notification. To hide the Auto-Start detection notification, long-press it → tap “Settings” → disable the Auto-Start service. Make sure you don’t turn off all notifications!
Go to: Android Settings → Apps → See all apps → tap the three-dot menu → Show system → Android System → App notifications → Apps using battery → turn it off.
Older Android versions (Android 9 and below) may lack system features needed for reliable recording, camera access, or background operation. DashCam Travel also uses libraries that require newer Android versions to function properly.
Despite this, DashCam Travel extends support for older, Google-unmaintained devices until January 31, 2027, where technically feasible.
You can still try installing the app from Google Play — a compatible version will be offered automatically if available.
For the best experience, we recommend using Android 10 or newer. You can check which Android versions are officially supported by Google here: Android version history – Wikipedia
Find answers about trials, upgrades and purchase restoration.
When you click the purchase button, Google will show a purchase dialog with the price for your country.
All purchases are one-time and yours forever 👍 No subscriptions, no recurring fees 👍
All features in the app are available, including paid ones. These have a time limit, so you can try everything before deciding to buy. The limit is removed after purchase.
If you want to upgrade to a higher version of the app (e.g. from Start to Professional), go ahead and purchase it via Google Play. Then simply send me both purchase receipts (for the old and new purchase) by email, and I’ll refund the price for old purchase.
All purchases are linked to your Google Account. Just sign in to your new device using the same Google Account and your purchases will be restored automatically.
If your purchases didn’t load on your new phone, try the following steps:
Configure unusual devices and expert-level settings.
Some devices (like car radios) may have non-standard screen orientation or unusual hardware behavior. For these cases, you can use the Expert Settings: App → Settings → Expert Settings. This section is intended for devices with non-standard configurations or known bugs.
Note: Expert Settings are not compatible with the Modern Camera (Beta). You have to set Camera Stable in App → Settings → Camera.
Try a broader search or clear the current category.
